Tapley's Fall

"THEY don't have many earthquakes 1 down Dunedin way, but something close to it happened on November 14 when Harold Livingstone I Tapley fell from his Parliamentary pedestal. It was the heavy gust of the Labor I vote which huried H.L.T. out of thej political whirlpool. All the same, ho j came up smiiing and showed Dunedin that he could take a beating with the next man. When you come to sum things up, Tapley's long and comprehensive association with Dun-Eclmrburgh looked like cementing his stay m Parliament. But it didn't, and he had to follow many of his colleagues down the gangway. When the .Dunedin Exhibition was on, the name of Harold Tapley was the tap-root of popularity. He was fitayor of the city, vice-patron and director of the Exhibition, and goodness knows what else. But though Tapley has lost favor m Parliamentary fields, he is still one of the big links which form the solid chain of energy to ensiire Dunedin's headway along the path of progress. Besides, why .should h6 worry? — he's still got "C.M.G." behind his name.
