CLASS POOR

Dargaville Cup Has Fair Lot (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) An idea of the class engaged m the Dargaville Cup to be decided at Avondale to-day can easily be gleaned by the fact that Valkon is top-weight with 9.5. TT is enough for him, but not prphibi- "*■ tive m his present form — his real best. Mint Leaf is a winner over the distance, but m among the top class has missed badly, while Desert Glow is handily m at .7.11. Thursby won the Jellicoe a few weeks back, while Golden Wedding, at lib. above the minimum is nicely placed, to show her merit m the open class. She is right at her top and comes straight from two victories m the hack class. Royal Doulton is always more than a possibility when she strikes form, on the minimum, m any class and she has had a few races lately. Of the others, Papatu has been disappointing this season, Alonsoa is only useful, Master Doon is racing no better of late, and Sir Archie may have freshened up a bit. The lightweight with- possibilities is Sir Russell. : On a dry track the Ellerslie mile hack winner of a few weeks ago may be looming up at the close. It is no easy race for punters, though a trio to be near at the death may prove to be Sir Russell, Golden Wedding and Royal Doulton.
