AT WAVERLEY

Need For Better Facilities

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) There was a big crowd at Waverley on Labor Day, and they went •> well provided with money. A LOT of coin was shut out from the ** machine every race, however, owing to the inadequacy of the tote arrangements. The primary cause of the trouble appeared to be that the pay-out facilities were not equal to the demands. . * This <led to much delay and many m consequence had no chance of getting their money on .the following race. Punters had to fight their way m to the pay-out windows, and the scrambling necessitated caused great annoyance, especially to lady Investors. A shortage of change after the last race, which was run about twenty minutes or more late, added to the confusion. . The club should see to it that increased facilities are provided m the future for investors. The totalisator inspector had something to say on this matter, declaring that the delay m paying out had led to the late running of the various events and that it was imperative for the club to provide more up-to-date methods. There are plenty of windows for paying out, but some of these were shut down too soon. Evidently the staff was not large enough to cope with the business offering. In the interests of the public and the club, better facilities must be provided for investors m the future. In one or two races, too, :the starts were of the straggling, order, and m some cases well-backed horses had their chances spoilt by not getting away well. ' • ■
