Press Provision ' At Gore
(From < "N.Z. Truth's" Punedin . Rep.)
However conservative might, be the policy of a racing club, it' has an .irrevocable obligation to the Press.' '
REASONABLE comfort, for newspaper ** men, whose duty it is to attend race meetings, is therefore quite as essential as the munificent accommodation usually provided for club officials. .'.■■" '".;'.'', \\. -.{'
In erecting a new stewards' and members' stand— quite an elaborate structure- — the Gore club seems to have closed an eye to the importance of such unobtrusive beings :as sporting reporters. . . ; V ->v.'
In fact* the v little ;'?dog- box" which is to harbor reporters looks like an architectural afterthought.
■•' Or -perhaps it wasVaV generous consideration by one of the; woi-kmeri, who sacrificed a couple of hours' overtime 'bn a bit. of spare material at the;completion of the job! ; ; ■'■••■: •■■:; ;•■•; ■':;
One of the top corners of the stand, a small section— about fourteen by four, feet I.—has1 .— has been glassed m, with, of course, a door.
- No more than f our can be seated together at the desk, and on an ordinary chair the average man would just be able to see "over the top."
So far as following, the race, the Press members seated at the 'ends of the desk have absolutely no chance of gaining a view of the horses -as theytraverse the corresponding ends of the course. • < . . '
Even those centrally seated ; have two lots of glass to be focussed through— the window of the "dog-box" and the side-glasses of the main portion of the stand. ■'.-'<
At the back of the diminutive dovecot is a slide-Window; : :
It is so perfectly* situated that, whan open, one . might fair,: backwards through it without any bother.:
