(By "The Toff.") DERFECT weather and a lightning track favored, the -.first day at Ad - dington. So fast -was the course, . thiat several owners scratched their horses, fearing putting exceptionally fast times against them. # . # # Wellington gained first honors, of the 1 season, B. Jarden winning the Introductory Handicap with the American trotter, Maxegin, which has Improved wonderfully this past couple of months. Maxegin was imported from America by the West Australian Trotting Association about four years ago. He won three races m the Commonwealth and was purchased by J. Bryce, who ran second with him at Hawera last Easter. In June last. he sold the stallion to Messrs. Kelly and Morrison, of Wellington. Maxegin' is by Judge Maxey, a son of Axeworthy and Reim Lass, which is a member of the Bingen tribe. Judged by the easy manner m which Maxegin won, his owners should derive further pleasure through the agency of this stylish trotter. # # # The speedy Louisiana did not trot too kindly m her first race at Aldington, but m all probability she will do better later at the meeting. # # * Great Change failed to leave the mark correctly m the Introductory Handicap at Addington. He is inclined to shift to the pace when asked to begin from a stand. # * * Young Carbine has plenty of speed, but he went unsteadily m his first race at Addington. The hard track may have affected him. # # # Sarsaparilla only has to go level to be first home at Addington. He made two breaks on the first day and then finished fourth. # « # Proud Ata was expected, to go particularly well on the first day .-. at Addington. He had A. Butterfield m the sulky, but failed to make a decent showing during the contest. #. * # Nourmahal trotted a fine race on the first day at Addington, and was unlucky ' m meeting such an improved trotter as Maxegin. # # * Sahib ran true to his track essays when he squeezed home m the Electric Handicap. F. S. Jones, was afraid to breathe on him over the last half mile. # # . # Parkwood is a bit pt a conundrum. He began quickly m the mile .saddle, but after leading for half a mile, he lost his punch, travelling home m fourth place. # • # Kotuku Jack proved costly to his followers on the first day at Addington. With King Pointer and Loch Moigh scratched, it looked good for the brother to Prince Pointer, but he broke up at the start. # * # Succession filled third place m the mile saddle at Addington on Saturday, and he could not do. any better. # # * Brutus nearly staged a successful come-back m the Electric Handicap. He was only beaten by half a head for first money after making all the pace over the last half-mile. The race will do him a lot of good. # * # General Bingen steams to have lost a lot of engine power. He cannot see out a mile. At one time he could go two miles and he now is six years bid, so ought to have improved m stamina. # # . # Carbine Direct is too moody to put money on. After .his showing on Saturday one would have to be lucky to fluke him In the humor. # #9 Mate O' Mine appears to have turned sour.* # ■ . # # Rebel stayed on surprisingly well, and a win for him is overdue. # * * Baynut has improved a lot and a two-mile race is within his cOmpass. #* . * Eugene de Oro went a nice race on the first day at Addington, but was not ready to see out a distance. - . # ■ • • Dillon Huon, which belongs to Hawera won the Trial Handicap at Addington after being driven a perfect race. He has loads of speed and stays on pretty well. s^ Ife f Huon Denver went 4.29 2-5 at Ad- ' dington and then got beaten. Gee! The game is getting hard. $ .* * ... * Kempton polished off two miles m 4:34 3-5 at Addington and won by a clear length. He stayed on remarkably well and being a young horse and of rich parentage he should develop still further. # * # Elzear had to accept third money on the first day at Addington after, carving out the two miles m
