ONE DAY AT GISBORNE

Last Week's Forip Should Work Out To Advantage •

The Poverty Bay Hunt meeting- on Saturday opens the newseason m the Gisborne district.

TO the outsider it is hard to follow the 1 weeks break between the Gisborne meeting and the hunt fixture, and that the! latter gathering loses is evidenced by the number of horses that, have gone home after racing last week. Seeing that the Gisborne club was up last week the Hunt committee are hopeful of showing an ' increase, too. ■■■■.' ■. The Hunters' Hurdles is the opening event and if Inner Harbor can jump as well as it is said he can he will. win. He should be able to o.utpace that lot. The two top- weights — Cohesion and Ballyfarnon— will be the favorites for the Awapuni Hurdles. Chrishna is ,an improving sort, but at the distance the two with the poundage should be able to hold him safely. \ Saved for the big flat race, Cohesion would be the elect of backers, but with him out it Is hard to say what will carry the money.

\- Othdn Will not be overlooked on ' j this occasion, but he will have his work cut, out to beat Pale Star, j, which is }n well on the minimum. j Master Arch is made of cast iron, for he stands up to ijjs work wonderfully well. He will be running on at the finish of the Hunt Club Cup when the others are dropping astern. < Patiently handled, Singleton, with all his weight 1 would take, some beating.in the Hack Flat, -but it is just doubtful if he will get that treatment.' First , Prince, which . ran second to Singleton last Saturday, will no doubt have the best of the riding and that may win for him. '.-''•'■ The maiden race may find a horse called Otene racing into prominence. He ran a good fourth last week to Dishonored. . - . . . •[ Whatever wins the final event will deserve the money— an eleven * stone minimum for a forty-fiva pound prize. ' . ■ '
