Anderson's Secret

SINCE the earliest days of mankind there have always been those whose ambition . Was . to discover the elixir of life, which to-day has taken the form of experiments with monkey glands. . But the span of human life has not so far been lengthened to, any noticea.ble degree. After all, given reasonable health, the only real elixir of life may be said to. be enthusiasm and genuine interest irt the things a man is chiefly concerned with. This, no doiibt, is the secret of the healthy vigor with which Sydney Francis Anderson, of Taradale, Napier, enjoys life , despite his seventy-nine years or so. This" sterling citizen retired some years ago from the Government service, but-— being blessed, with enthusiasm—the fact that he had retired did not ' depress .him and so. set up the ravages of human decay, which is often apparent m- men who have given their best to their life's work. S.F.'A. will be well reihembered as a man of kindly personality, 'who had a great deal to do With viticulture and horticulture, a contributor of , many articles to the "Agricultural Journal." Finding there was nothing better than illustrations .to -.enlighten his readers, he set to work , to do his own pen-and-ink drawings: . Even to-day, When he is hearing his eightieth ' year, he .still continues his studies m drawing, doubtless encouraged by the sound maxim that a man is as old as he feels.
