Howard's Big Idea
THERE is not much of him when it 1 comes to height and weight, but
Fred Howard, officer m. charge of the Government Tourist Bureau at Greymouth, could never be overlooked or unnoticed because of the smallness of his stature. . . ,
. What Fred slacks m bulk, he more than makes up for m enthusiasm for his job and his. capacity for wdrk. He has been m charge of the bureau for the past .two months; or so, having been transferred! to the Coast from Wellington, and there is no more active bureau m the Dominion.
Howard believes m "the personal touch." He makes a point of meeting every tourist— or potential tourist — he can, m order to place himself at their disposal and . assist them m whatever way possible. « The department's aim is "Service"— and Howard is the living embodiment of it, as all tourists who have met him can testify. Everybody knows Fred m Greymouth, and the stranger, too, cannot be ... m the town very long before Howard makes himself known with an inquiry as to whether he can be of service. . '
In this way he is rapidly spreading the gospel of the beauties of New Zealand scenic resorts, doing his job well' and making many friends.
