Law and Politics

AS a change from arguing'law m the courts, Lawyer Archibald A. Mc-

Lachlan, of Christchurch, hopes to persuade the electors of Riccarton to give him his chance next November of framing legislation.

For "Mac." has decided to "give it a go" as an Independent Liberal at the forthcoming. Parliamentary election. Just how he will shape on the hustings remains to be seen. He certainly has chosen rather a vague label

Independent liberalism may mean much or it may mean little, but, at any rate, McLachlan means to interpret it as meaning progress, sane legislation and economy consistent with efficiency. Present indications point to a substantial backing for this intrepid young barrister, who recently celebrated . his thirtieth birthday.

A B.A. and L.Li.B., Archibald will enter the fight with a good idea of what the Law Factory m Wellington ought to be, while his knowledge of economics, about which he understands more than the mere A.B.C. of the subject, will prove very helpful to him.

His greatest asset is his earnestness and his civic spirit, but he is no great speaker and there his more eloquent opponents will have it on him. But if deeds — not words — prevail, Mac. should have a sporting chance.
