Favorably Known

IT is a plain statement of fact to say that John McKinnon, master

builder, of Hamilton, is popular. More — he is one of those darn likeable chaps that you just somehow naturally take to at first meeting. Jack is pretty well known m the Waikato — not to mention the Thames Valley and the thirsty King Country — as a "man who gets things done" m the building line on schedule time. To complete his business rating, it is only necessary to add that he is a meticulously straight dealer and a broadminded, sympathetic employer. But it is, however, as a clubman and a sport that Jack wins new friends and retains the old. Place him m the chair at an Orphans' Club korero and the success of the evening is assured. He will make even a flat, stodgy programme effervesce with his dry Scotch quips and sallies and tuneful voice. When a year or two ago he topped the poll •at the Hamilton municipal elections, many supporters asked the question why he didn't have a fly at the • mayoralty? But Jack doesn't chase the limelight and merely emitted a deprecating cough. He'd be a pretty useful practical member of Parliament either m sup-i port of a dominant party or m .opposition.
