Over A Stile
give me another chance, L your worship" — and his worship,
with a full knowledge of human weakness, confers with Ensign Coombes on the matter. Ensign Coombes is one of those fine women who are faithfully carrying out the great work of the Salvation Army. She is all for those who have drawn losing hands m the great game of Life.
No matter what the case may be, Ensign Coombes always manages to find some good point, often microscopic enough, which will give some unfortunate another chance to become a good citizen.
In her neat uniform, she is. a wellknown figure m Dunedin. When a visitor asks whom she is, the average Dunedin citizen - finds a very great measure of pride m saying: "That's Ensign Coombes and there's many a lame dog m this town that she's helped over the stile. . . ."
And, you may be sure, the people of the Scotch centre do not give praise unless it is absolutely merited.
