The Racket Game In Dunedin
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) The principal A grade match last Saturday, University v. Moana, has now reached a very interesting stage. With a set to play, Moana are leading by one set while University has four games to the good, thus making it necessary for Moana to win the remaining set.
TN the men's singles, Chisholm de--1 feated Guy by the odd game. Guy's steadiness and accuracy were nearly responsible for his winning the set and it is pleasing to note this return to form of the ex-Otago singles champion. Fulton's excellent anticipation and steady play were a feature of his match against Gale. Johnny had his opponent thinking all the time. In his first senior match, Stallworthy, a young University player, showed good form to defeat Webber 9-7. As anticipated, the Moana ladies proved too good for their opponents. Five out of the six games going to Moana.
With Duthie's mixed doubles match yet to be played, the odds seem to favor Moana.
Roslyn had a comfortable victory over Cosy Dell of 11 sets to 5. For the losers, Jensen did well to win his three sets and his defeat 'of McPher.son 9-7 was one of his best performances to date. Mrs. McDougall, playing very steady and accurate tenrn's, made Mrs. Patterson go all out to win by the odd game. Jensen and Sherriff m their match against McDougall and . McPherson, showed that they are a formidable combination and did well to defeat the Roslyn pair.
During the week Bray defeated Chisholm m an Otago Club Ladder Challenge 6-3, 8-6. Bray, though getting on m years can still show the younger players the fine points of the game.
Miss Keast, a young North East Valley player, is shaping: and with more experience should go a long way.
The Yankee Tournament which was postponed owing to weather conditions will be held next Saturday — weather permitting.
South Otago Lawn Tennis Sub-As-sociation, although little heard of, is quite a live body and the executive is doing a lot for tennis m the south. As their players are drawn from Milton, Kaitangata, Balclutha and Clinton, one can quite understand the difficulties m controlling matches, etc.
