GLENDOWIE WINS HUNT CUP
Lives Up To His Reputation As A Promising 'Chaser (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) The £700 Waikato Hunt Cup, decided at Cambridge on Monday, revealed the absolute superiority of Glendowie as a 'chaser m the hunting class.
HE fenced cleanly throughout and won comfortably at the close, though even his most ardent supporters felt a shade uneasy through what appeared to be over-confident riding on the part of Henderson. There was only one horse behind him entering on the last circuit, with Henderson still making no effort, and it seemed risky. But Glendowie answered all demands when the call came and hit the front from Maidos and Banjuke three furlongs from home. Then the race was his. Nukutere slipped., prior to the home turn, which cost him second money,
old Syndicate finally beating him. for those honors. Frisco Jack gave his usual speedy disj>lay of fencing until the sod wall brought him down m the first round, at which stage he was leading Banjuko. Sea Comet threatened to play a prominent part when he ran oft! after a circuit. The winner was turned out m. great condition by Bert Tinker and certainly lived up to his reputation as a steeplechaser of promise. Banjuke's condition was also perfect, but he had nothing left m reserve once Glendowie collared him and he petered into fifth place at the close, with Maidos handy.
