ONE DAY AT OPAKI

There Should Be Fair Fields On Saturday The Masterton club's one-day spring meeting will be held at Opaki on Saturday and there is promise of fair fields.

HAVING had Carter ton and Trentham m successive weeks, and with Opaki to follow this week, there has been a surfeit of racing m the southern end of the North Island. Horses will not stand up to it and for this reason the club will be fortunate to get even fair fields. However, the nominations were good and writing from the weights there ?s reason to be hopeful. Rowley has some weight m the High Weight. He will only need to run to be favorite. j Brigadier Bill and Mandarine both have pace and they may be dangerous. Royal Ceres has a chance of getting some easy money m the open six. He should be capable of giving a good account of himself. Notwithstanding her failure at Trentham, Ladykiller has to be considered for the Lawn Handicap.

Tone and Ring Boy are two from Trentham with chances. Royal Game and Waicullus have winning form, but the distance of the Cup may trouble the former. Tresham is doing some travelling these days. He went fair at Trentham and a little improvement would make him take part m the finish. Imitation, Kalos and Sarchee are three with pace engaged m the Ltansdowne Handicap. Beaumont and Willow Wai may be prominent m the Grandstand Handicap. Vesperus is nicely m and may be the pick. Several winners m the fivefurlong hack race will have been out earlier m the afternoon. Arch Arrow is a fresh one, however, and he can travel over that distance. Imitation and Panther- are also capable of speed when at their best.
