THAMES ON SATURDAY
Looking Over Likely Horses In Goldfields Cup (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) Northern racing enthusiasts will have Thames on Saturday and Monday to interest them.
THE fixture is booked for Ellerslie and the class engaged .is good enough to command attention. Recent public form should help punters m their efforts to locate winners, though without the acceptances as a guide it is like groping m the dark. Kamehameha, on his second to Anchor last start, seems to have prospects of taking the Thames Hurdles, though Kendal," Glenotua, Karamu, Slump and Rahepoto all have some form to oppose him. The Borough may possibly turn out a division event, with selections taking a wide range. Several hack winners are engaged, with nothing outstanding. Creation is one which fell when threatening to win at Cambridge, while Judge's Box, Whakarite and Modest Boy are a trio worth consideration if m after payments. Branson only has to start to be m the picture for the Thames Valley Handicap, but may find Archeno one of those hard to shake off. Levenside, after being badly left m the Bracelet at Cambridge, got up into third place and may take the Puriri Handicap from Modest Boy, provided both accept. The Nursery is a hard problem, though Volimond, which got badly away at Te Rapa and finished third, now has a pull m the weights from Avon Court and Poto Dawn. Avon Court is certainly more forward than the rest, while Red Lion and Look Out are a pair with reasonable speed, if produced.
! On Trentham showing, first day, Nippy must command respect if left m the Hauraki Plains mile, m which Branson and Mint Leaf are a pair with recent winning form. Should Paganelli happen to be produced at the meeting, he would have to be seriously considered m th« open sprints, but m his absence Nancy Lee and Town Guard should prove the most reliable to carry the cash. No handicaps have been published for the Flying at time of writing. The Ellerslie turf should suit Delightment better than most tracks for the Goldflelds Cup, with Mosaic and Royal Mint as a troublesome pair. • Nippy may read nicely m thi« race, but has yet to win at Ellerslie and the field may possibly trouble him. Pegaway is the right class to come home if thoroughly ready, but there may be a slight doubt on that score. Eden Hall, Master Doon, Mint Leaf, Dayguard, Le Choucas, Papatu and Desert Glow are all possibilities, but Delightment, if free from soreness, reads very nicely at ten furlongs. Royal Mint is still racing solidly and is always likely to bob along.
