AT OAMARU ON LABOR DAY

Big Fields and Bright Prospects For Popular Gathering

(By "The Toff.") Big- fields will line out at Oamaru on Labor Day. It will pro bably be the club's last meeting- on the old grounds.

THE course is in good order and everything points to its being an interesting fixture. Among the trotters entered for the Improvers' Handicap are a few proved performers, but the majority will be carrying silk for the first time. As is often the case in maiden trotters' events, some cut-and- dried thing will hop to the front and lead all the way. Little Bingen is a fair sort that might be equal to the occasion. Of the others, Kitty Patch and Lord Tracey are the pick. In the Trial Handicap, Glenrowan will keep the opposition busy. Bankhead is overdue; so is Stockade Junr., but if Don Derby cuts loose he will be in the money. While the acceptances are yet to be declared, the Oamaru Cup should attract a useful field. Pan Yan and Brentloc will go best of the front division, but how are they going to remain in front of Dalmeny, Menember, Silk Thread and Trimmer? Menember's form at Wellington was good, while Trimmer won nicely at Addington. At Ashburton in June and at the August fixture Dalmeny ran two solid races. They may not beat Bell Harold or Harold Thorpe, while Author Jinks has only to leave the mark to afford his

owner the pleasure of collecting the Cup. lt really looks like Silk Thread, Edwards' elect and Author Jinks being prominent at the finish. Yoicks and Kid Logan are capable pacers over a mile and a-quarter in saddle and should beat- Kreisler, but not so King Pointer or Panto. They ran very well at Methven. King Pointer is a likely customer for a ten -furlong saddle race. If Lingfield can go in saddle she must have a big chance, and in what appears to be an open race Yoicks, King Pointer and Lingfield should shape as well as any. Sarsaparilla and Commander Bingen may fight out the Waitaki Handicap. That is, if Bon Wood and Nelson Ata do not head them before the judge is reached. Commander Bingen, Bon Wood and Nelson Ata are a likely trio. In the Weston Handicap, Avenger ought to hold his own with Trimmer and Final McKinney. For the Redcastle Handicap, Logan Brae, Lee Bingen and Asset look the goods. If Huon Denver leaves the peg in the' Dash Handicap he will get the money. Next to him, Lingfield and Omaha are apt to gather some of it.
