WAIKATO CUP UNDER REVIEW
Long Straights At Te Rapa Should Favor Stayers
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.)
It is certainly interesting to observe that at least a half-dozen of the acceptors for to-morrow's Waikato Cup took part in the same race last spring.
IF it was a matter of comparison of weights and performances ln those particular events, Eden Hall may prove the most reliable. . He was beaten only a head by Master Doon last year and is now down 91bs., while he has 121bs. the best of "the Master." If Eden Hall is as well as when he ran third in the Avondale Cup, he must be considered. Transformer is up over a stone from last spring, but ran a great race in the Mitchelson and should be just about ready. The best handicap class being absent must give old Te Kara a show. Should the ground be turfy, Delightment and Royal Mint must loom up. Delightment's third in the Mitchel-
son, after making most of the running, is hard to forget. Desert Glow has been up close lately, on hard tracks, while Lord Star, Mint Leaf and Llandudno have pace at times and cannot be entirely cut out. As for Nippy, there is an impression that he is coming back, but a mile ana a-half may prove too far, a remark which applies to Queen Arch. Kendal seems but of his class and his victory would create a surprise. Form points strongly to Delightment, Transformer and Eden Hall being most likely to trouble the judge. Royal Mint, however, is good enough at present if the ground does not make him sore. The long straights at Te Rapa should favor stayers like Royal Mint and Co.
