WILL BE BEST FOR YEARS

Classy Youngsters In Wellesley Stakes

Twelve months back the big Stakes was only sufficient induce JUDGING on the number of two-year-olds left in, there is going to be a vastly different state of affairs on Saturday next. At the last forfeit twenty-five were left in, and even allowing for a good number of these to drop out, there is still a splendid field. Included in the field are six winners — Childsplay, Prince Humphrey, Raasay, Tea Miss, Chit and Knightlike, while horses -with placed performances are Endorse, Second Wind, Freehold and Shot Silk. The best form shown in, the North Island to date was that of Prince Humphrey in winning the Welcome at Ellerslie. He came from behind, and on that race he should again account for Knightlike — which led into the straight — Freehold, Second Wind and Shot Silk. Down south Childsplay won the McLean Stakes in the easiest of easy fashion, and she appears to be the one to line up with the good youngsters that used to carry the Clifford livery. Then there is one back from trying her luck against the cracks in Sydney — the Paper Money filly Endorse. She showed great speed at Randwick in her work, but was unfortunate

stake offered in the Wellesley intent to attract five runners. on the day of her race (the Gimeraek) to strike a bad track. This did not suit her style of salloping, and after doing her best she was beaten into third place, Belle Gallante and Gold Tinge heading her home. Others in the race which have yet to tackle classics are numerous, land two of them, Tea Miss and Raasay, won up Hawkes Bay last month. The former is a flighty filly with a ton of speed, but Raasay (a halfbrother to Runnymede), in addition to having pace, is built on solid lines. He may be the better of the pairhe has a victory over Tea Miss, which was sore that day — and though he has yet to be fully tested he looks the part. Another representative Absurd has in the race is Freehold, which has filled minor positions to date. He has the family speed, but is none too solid at the present time. Perhaps he will do better in the autumn. The race looks a match between the best of the north and south, with one with Sydney experience also there. The trio is made up of CHILDSPLAY, ENDORSE and PRINCE HUMPHREY.
