SATURDAY'S CARTERTON RACES

Looking Over the Fields and Prospects

There will be racing at Taratahi on Saturday, when the Carterton club holds its annual meeting.

DENALTY clauses operative on ■winL ners engaged at Trentham has Its effect on the meeting and will always be against the smaller club. However, . even with this against them, the fixture should be an enjoyable one. The big race is the Cup and Tresham will be fancied if he starts. Nothing has been more consistent of late. '■ Most opposition may come from Vertigern and Cerf. There is a fair field m the open six and Royal Game — witii all his racing to stand to him — looks nicely placed. Willow Wai and Royal Land are liked m the lighter division. In the hack seven -furlong race Ten

and Rowley are joint top-weights. Both can carry the lead. The High-Weight Handicap is a bit of a puzzler. Horses that have shown form m recent days are Watchman, Lady Faye and Vexatious. Imitation is engaged m both the six and the five-furlong hack races; whichever he runs m will find him a hard proposition. It is just possible he may take the two on. In the six he will get most trouble from Arch Arrow and Ruakura, while m the five, Rosebush and Carrigallen are very fast over a short course. If Waicullus is started m the open seven -furlong event he will be well backed after Otaki running. Vesper us is coming on and may have improved enough to be dangerous.
