Tho mutilated body of Emma Hill, 17y ears old, was found by the police on the bank of the Yarra. The discovery was made as the result of the statements of George Dovitt, aged 27, who in tho early hours of the morning hailed a taxicab and told the driver be wanted to be driven to a police station. Devitt’s throat lmd been cut, and be was covered in blood when he arrived at the station. He told the police lie had left a a girl dead near the river, after cutting her throat and then cutting his own. Alter several hours’ search tho police found tho girl’s body. There were evidences of a desperate struggle, and examination revealed that even after tho girl’s throat had been hacked she had been subjected to outrageous treatment. The girl had been in tho habit of going out with Devitt, but had lately told him she did not want to go again with him. After this repulse Devitt (who is in hospital and guarded by tho police) became moody, and wrote to the girl and arranged tlie meeting last night.
