FOUND DEAD IN CREEK
RETIRED FARMER'S END CAUSE NOT DETERMINED. WHANGARBI, December 1. A retired farmer named Thomas Fotsyth, a single man, aged 50 years, was found dead in a creek near the Whangatei Falls bridge yesterday. His head and shoulders were submerged in thirteen inches of water. The deceased’s coat and two walking sticks were in a position which suggested that he had collapsed when stooping to obtain a drink from the stream. A gold watch and chain, cash of over £6, and a oheque for £l7. were found in the pockets of his clothing. Though drowning was first supposed to be the cause of death, marks on the neck, as though made bv a rope. Were observed when the bodv was examined at the morgue. Forsyth had suffered from' acute rheumatism for a number of years, and had to rely on walking sticks when moving about. He was last seen alive on Monday, but no anxiety was felt., ns it was thought that he was visiting relatives. An inquest was opened this morning, hut was adjourned for a week irt view of the Complicated circumstances.
