PRAISE: NOT CENSURE
(To the Editor, “N.Z. Times.”) Sir, —After reading the Baume case and as a mother of sons and grandsons, I feel that instead of receiving censure the gaol officials, especially the doctor, should have medals for their humane conduct. The quality of mercy “is not strained, it droppeth as tho gentle rain from Heaven.” I am a stranger to all parties.—l am, etc., ANNIE M. MAXWELL. Toko, November 25th.
