SATURDAY’S RACING GOOD SOUTHERLY BREEZE SMALL YACHT CAPSIZES There was a good southerly bieoze oil Saturday afternoon, although heavy rain fell throughout the progress of the races at the U. P.N.Y.C. Tho yachtsmen who turned out did not mind the olementr. however, and some good racing was held fluring the afternoon, throe events being sailed—first class, second cla*s f and Isri and under class. In the rare for first-class yachts, only two started, although five had entered*. These were Marangi <scr; amt Viola (11‘ min). A good race was sailed. Marangi actually crossing the lino at Mir 17min I2sec, and Viola at shr 17mm 47scc. Viola having an advantage with her haudica:deducted from the time. yachts competed in the second class race, and they crossed the startingline ib this order: Oyster doming Mana (rcr), Kawene Gmm', Windward (sur , lolanthe (smin), Mini <5 min , and Nanette (Bmin) The course—which was the same* an that sailed by the first class boats—was from h point between Clyde quay and King's wharves, to Somes dock buoy, by tho southern blinker and back to the starting line—once around. Miru did not finish, but tne other boats sailed well The finishing times aru given first and the corrected time* in parentheses Windward, 3hv 32mm r»sec *5:32:51; Oyster, ohr oOmi*. 25soc (5.85:23); Rawcne, ohr 40min (5.341; Nanette, 3hr 49min (5.41); Mana, shr 24miu (3.24); lolanthe. shr 25min 12scc (5:50:12 . The corrected times placed lolanthe in the winning position, with Mana in second place Tho lSft and under yachts sailed on a triangular course from the starting lino to Jerninghain Buoy, thence to Coromandel Buoy aud back to the starting line. Wellecley and All Black, the two Sanders Cup aspirants, started from scratch, and gave* Geisha <> minutes. Wellesley gut <way about 10 minutes late, aud lo*-t any chance she might have had. All Black was leading L*eisha when tbe latter capsized on the run home, and the tace was abandoned.
