AT THE TOWN HALL
WELLINGTON COLLEGE CONCERT. There were scenes of enthusiasm in tho Town Hall on Saturday evening, when tho boys <ft Wellington College gave their annual concert in aid of the College Pavilion Fund. Mr M. Turner, who directed proceedings, had gathered together some excellent talent, while orchestra and choir had worked hard for the event under their respective conductors, Mr .T. Lomas and Mr .T. Todd McCaw. Tho orchestral numbers, which were of good standard, were “Raekoczy” and Raff’s “Cavatina.” The choir sang nicely such folk songs as “Mowing the Barley,” “John Barleycorn,” and “Twenty Eighteen,” giving besides “The Orderlies’ Song” and “Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes.” Individual items included “In Old Madrid” (Trotere), well sung by G. C. B. Bliss, Drdla’s “Serenade,” played by S. Pomeroy, a delivery of Bracken’s “Not Understood” by R. G. Whitehead, Dvorak’s “Humoresque” and “Ciribiribin” (Pestnlozza), by a trio consisting of O. Keys. A. E. Hurd, and A. G. Rodda, the “Ballad of John Nicholson,” recited hv G. C. Power. Schubert’s “Marche Militaire,” playec. by M. Boyd (a competent pianist), a duet (“Anchored”) by "W. J. I reethy and A. S. Cathcart, a violin solo by P . Martinelli, “He Fell Among Thieves (giveif by L. H. Searle). an extract from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a phvsicnl training display under Mr Y G Thomson. A gonuly sum should be added to the pavilion fund by this effort.
