There was a tragic termination to the Northern Counties boxing championship held at Hull. George Hart, aged 17, who was the English schoolboy champion in 1923, was boxing with the world’s schoolboy champion when he received an uppercut on the point. He fell, and was carried out unconscious. During a later bout it was announced that he had died. The spectators left the hall with bared heads.
