LONDON-MONTREAL SERVICE TRAFFIC DOUBLED LAST MONTH AUTOMATIC DECODING By Telegraph.—Press Aesn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 21, 11.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, November 20. It has been stated at Montreal that the first month of the beam wireless the business with the public proved a continuous success. The traffic handled in four weeks has been more than double that dealt with previously by the company. The rapidity of the service and the accuracy of the messages have been the outstanding features. There has been a constant 24-hour service from Montreal to London at a minimum speed of 100 words a minute, since automatic high-speed machines have been used for the transmission and reception of messages in code. Tiie machines worked smoothly, practically without interruption. Errors have been reduced to the minimum. Moreover, further improvement is expected. Although the transmission is already instantaneous, successful experiments have been made with a printer machine, which automatically decodes messages sent, and prints them ready for delivery to the addressee. Ninety per cent, of the total traffic from the Montreal station has been handled in this way, at a speed as high gs 175 words a minute.
