The Navy Department is advised that the United States cruiser Pittsburg is towing into Honolulu the crippled New Zealand mine-sweeper Wakakura, which the warship picked up in rough seas on Friday afternoon.
The Wakakaru, en route from San Francisco to Honolulu, was sighted in trouble, with part of her machinery broken. The Pittsburg, bound for Manila, rounded to in the storm and sent a boat to take off the machinist and the broken part. While the cruiser’s mechanics sought to repair this part the seas grew wilder, and the Pittsburg’s commander decided finally to take the Wakakura in tow. The report stated that the time of reaching Honolulu depended on weather conditions.
