INHERITED GREAT FORTUNE CROWD WAITED AT GAOL GATES ELABORATE CELEBRATIONS Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Auslralian and N.Z. Gable Association. (Received November 21, 1L.5 p.m.) ROME, November 20. ■ An unusual scene occurred at the gates of Padua prison, when Nino Gilli, a poor tradesman who was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for a fraudulent bankruptcy, was released. His wife and relatives and a crowd of friends arrived in motor-cars and whirled Gilli away joyfully to elaborate celebrations. The,cause of the jubilation was that Gilli. -while in prison, unexpectedly inherited a large estate and 1 a bank account amounting to about £173,000 from a grand-aunt in California, with whom he had never even corresponded. Gilli, after the news was confirmed, was unable to sleep. He was treated with all consideration possible under prison rules, but he had to servo his sentence, less three months remitted for good conduct. He announces that he will build a hospital in his native town of Ferrara. Already he has applied for a passport to California.
