ATHLETICS
UNITED BIBLE CLASSES ATHLETIC PARK TO-DAY. The success which attended the united Bible classes sports gathering last year is reflected in the increase of entries this year, over one hundred and ten different competitors representing twenty-three different Bible classes having entered, as against seventy odd competitors from twelve classes last year. Every event is a championship, and each has attracted large entries except the 226 junior which erroneously appeared as the 220 senior which was elsewhere provided for. Post entries for this event and a 220 intermediate (additional) will be accepted, these events being placed first in the programme. Of the teams entered popular fancy is evenly divided between Vivian street, Taranaki street, and St. John’s, but St. Janies and WoVser Bay may upset calculations. Those who enjoy a good “mile” or “half-mile” , will see a field of about sixteen, including Wilson, Priestly, Silver, Ormrod, E. Rose, and Lankehenr in these events. Jumps, shotputting and walking have all attracted large fields in nil grades. Many promising athletes have entered for the intermediate and junior events. The middle portion of the stand will be reserved for holders of tickets (price 6d) now in circulation, and the public will be kept posted as to the relative positions of the leading teams. The Mayor (Mr Norwood) will attend to present the banner.
