BURNT TO DEATH FATE OF HORSES FIRE AT GISBORNE STABLES. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, November 14. Shortly after nine o’clock on Saturday night a fire broke out in the training stables of A. E. Buttcrworth at Te Hapara, a suburb of Gisborne. When the brigade arrived one box containing an Our King— Goleonda filly' named Strata, owned by Mr J. S. Kirkpatrick, was a mass of flames. The filly was burnt to death. The flames spread rapidly to the next box, which contained a three-year-old colt, Lee Fong, by Autumn, owned by Mr A. Fraser. Lee Fong was so badly burnt that he had to be destroyed. The flames then spread to a chaff house, which was badly damaged. On the other side of the chaff house were
three boxes. containing Scotch Mixture, Rapiata and Superb King. Willing helpers rushed and opened the doors as soon as the flames were first seen, and these three horses escaped, though Scotch Mixture was somewhat knocked about. Particulars regarding insurances are not available yet.
