MR E. W. KANE APPOINTED.

INTERESTING CAREER

Mr E. IV. Kane is to be the new Clark of the House pt Representatives in succession to Mr Lowe, who is now taking up the position to winch lie was appointed some months ago as Clerk of Parliament, which involves his transfer to the Upper House. Mr Kano, who is n native of Wellington, was educated at the Catholic School, Thorndon, and later on, nt Bra nil's Commercial School. After leaving school he studied for the law and served his articles with Mr Prank Morton Ollivier, tho well-known barrister. and was his managing clerk. 111-health caused him to scverhis connection with -the legal profession ; and after a while, in 18S6, ho joined tho Parliamentary staff os a sessional clerk. Since then ho has filled all. tho various offices connected with Parliamentary work, and has hoen Reader and Cleric of Bills, second clerk-assist-ant, and clerk-assistant, and now he has been appointed Clerk of tho House of Representatives. Mr Kane has been 35 years connected with Parliament, and has served 40 sessions of Parliament. Ho is senior officer in length of swrvico connected with the House. With the exception of Dr. Newman, who was first elected a member in 1884, np member of tho present House was a member at tho time Mr Kano joined tho staff. Mr Kane is familiar with all Parliamentary procedure and tho of Parliamentary life, mid is recognised as one of tho host authorities on tho standing orders. His appointment is popular with members of Parliament, and tho officials connected therewith, and with tho public generally.
