INFLUENZA CASES

, A SLIGHT INCREASE BUT NEARLY MILD CASES, SAYS HEALTH OFFICER. In all 330 influenza cases—3l3 riiild, 5 severe, and I'2 pneumonic—were notified in the Wellington Health District during the week ending noon on Monday, as against 269 cases —1 severe and 15 pneumonic lor the previous week. The cases were distributed as under amongst the various hospital districts:— Waipawa, 17 —two pneumonic at Waipawa. . Taranaki, 39—one pneumonic (Opunn'keX J c Strat-'ord, 33—four severe and five pneumonic at Stratford. Hawera, 27—one pneumonic (Elthajn). Patea, 14 mild. Wanganui, 38 mild. Palmerston North, 30—two pneumonic (Feilding). Wellington, 40—one pneumonic and one severe (Wellington City). Wairarapa, 40 mild. Nelson, 41 mild. Dr. Faris, District Health 'Officer, stated to a. "Times" representative that the figures spoke for themselves. Tho cases were nearly all mild; and, for the season of the year, there was nothing in the returns calling for comment. INFECTIOUS DISEASES. The cases* of infectious diseases, other than influenza, notified during tho past week were as follow: Scarlet fever, B—Hawera,8 —Hawera, 1; Palmeistou North, 2; Wellington, 2; Wairaraipa, 2; Nelson, 1. Diphtheria, 37— Waipawa., 2; Stratford, 2; Hawera, 4; Wanganui, 2; Palmerston North, 6; Wellington, 11; Wairarapa, 3; Nelson, 6. Enteric fever. 1 (Wanganui). Tuherculo3i3, 2—Wanganui, 1; Wellington, 1. Pneumonia,. 12—"Narpawa, 1; Stratford, -2; Hawera, 2; Patea, 2; -Palmerston North, 3; Wellington, 1; Wairarapa, 1. Measles. 1 ( Wanganui). Varicella, 24—Taranaki, 2; Hawera, 3; Wanganui, 1; Palmerston North, 2 : Wairarapa. 2 ; Nelson, 15. Erysipelas, 3. Ophthalmia neonatorum, 1 (Nelson). OASES AT PETONE.

The Health Inspector has informed the Petone Borough Council of the existence of four cases of infectious .disease and thirteen cases of influenza iu tho borough.
