POLITICIANS AND PASSES. A PROTEST FROM CANTERBURY. I'Elt PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH June 9. At a, meeting of .the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Council oil Monday a loiter was received" from the Prime Minister in reply to a question as to whether a paragraph appearing in the- newspapers some time ago, that members of Parliameut had been granted free steamer passages, by the Union Steam Ship Company to Wellington, that the paragraph was correct. The following resolution has been forwarded to tho Prime Minister:“That this council views with tho strongest disapprobation and reirret the Prime Minister's application to tho Union Steam Ship Company for free passages for members of the Legislature whtn travelling between Wellington ami Lyttelton, and affirms the principle that, under no circumstances, should any member pf the Legislature, as such, ho placed uuder a and personal obligation to the proprietor or proprietors of any private business carried on in New Zealand, and that tho proper travelling expenses of all members of Parliament should as 10proseutaltives of the whole Dominion, be paid from tho Consolidated bund.
