GISBORNE, June 8. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Works, spent a day- in Gisborne yesterday.. He received a number of deputations, and was tendered a civic reception in tho morning. During the day tho Minister received deputations from local bodies regarding grants for roads. •An important deputation from the East Coast Railway and Development League asked for a vigorous policy in pushing on tho Napicr-Gisborno railway, tho development of the Waikaro--moana hydro-electric power, and tho improvement of mail services. The Hon. Mr Coates, 'in replying, said ho realised the importance of completing the important railway lines and also developing hydro-electricity, and promising careful consideration of the requests. •
