FREQUENTERS OF HOTELS. I POLICE INSPECTOR’S REPORT. ! The drinking bv women in public houses was the svibjeet n[ some comment by Inspector W. B. Mcllvcncy yesterday, when be was making bis annual report to the City Licensing Committee. There was. he said, need for more careful supervision in some of the hotels—principally, though not . exclusively, those situntod_ m residential arca& —to provide against the encouragement' of drinking by females. 'As was pointed out in a previous report. there had been a marked increase in the number of women who were seen thinking in the hotels _of the city, some of the women being accompanied by children of tender years. In the course of his recent inspection. he saw several instances where males and females were allowed to congregate and mix together, drink together, -and remain together in side rooms much longer than was. in his opinion, necessary r the purpose o" obtaining reasonable refreshment. A number of licensees had taken steps to deal with the matter, but be would be glad to see others recognising tha ndvisableness of following their example. The chairman of the committee agreed with the inspector that it was highly desirable that licensees should attempt to stop the practice.
