PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT
Information as to when the supply of hydro-electric energy- from Lake, Coleridge wall bo- available tor tho South Canterbury district, embracing the boroughs of Temuka, Ashburton, and Timaru, was desired from tho Prime Minister yesterday morning by a deputation comprising Messrs Craigie, Bitchencr, and Burnett, M.I . 3, and the Mayors of the towns named. Mr Massey assured, the deputation that every tiling possible would be done to give effect to tho promise made by the Government some time ago to pusji the work on as speedily as circumstances permit. . , . Mr Lawrence Birks, chief electrical engineer, pointed out the difficulty experienced in obtaining the machinery needed to increase tho capacity of the Lake Coleridge power station, and also in getting tho poles and wires to carry the current further south. It appeared that it would probably be some Is months before tho supply was available. .
