CONCILIATION COUNCIL SETTLES DISPUTE.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 5. •At the Conciliation Council to-day the representatives of the recentlyformed Clerks, Cashiers’ and Office Employees’ Union met the representatives of the Gas Company, Freezing Works Companies, and Agricultural Implement-makers. The following rates were agreed upon: —Males, first year, 20s per' week; second year, 255; third year, 30s; fourth year, 40s; fifth year, 535; thereafter, 80s. Females, first year. 20s; second year, 255; third year," 30s; fourth year, 355; thereafter, 40s. Males over 25 years of ago. with five years’ experience, £4 4s. Males with five years’ experience, will be paid a bonus of 6s; females with four years’ experience, a bonus of ss; all others, a bonus of 3s. Employees who have passed the matriculation or Senior Civil Service, or the Commercial Accountancy Examinations, will receive 6s extra. A 48-hour week was agreed upon, and no day’s work is to bo longer than nine hours.
