SATURDAY’S LIST A NUMBER. OF OFFENDERS FINED. Captain Heimah and Air Len McKenzie, J.P.’s, presided over Saturday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. RESISTING THE POLICE. Oskaarorika Erikscn, on charges of drunkenness and resisting Constable McC'oll in the execution of his duty, was convicted and discharged on the first information, and fined £l, ia default to undergo 24 hours' imprisi onment, on the second. On a charge of wilfully obstructing Constable McColl in the execution or hia duty, Minnie O’Connor waa fined £l, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. A STREET FIGHT. George Bowden and Robert Fox, two young men, pleaded not guilty tp threatening behaviour in Willis street by taking part in a fight. The parties lived at the same boarding-house where friction was alleged to • have taken place. Tlie evidence given by the defendants was of a conflicting nature, but the weight was in favour of Fox, who received the first blow. The information against this accused was dismissed, and Bowden was fined £l. FINED FOR INDECENCY. William George Eagle, for whom Mr J . Scott appeared, denied a charge of drunkenness, and one of having committed a grossly indecent act. in Garrett street. The accused was convicted and discharged for drunkenness and fined £l, in default 24 hours for the other offence. CHARGE AGAINST FIREMAN. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell,S.M.)

Patrick Redmond, a fireman on the (Mapourika, was fined £5, costs 7s, in default 14 days’ imprisonment for disobeying the lawful commands of the second engineer of the vessel. F. Moaatt, the second engineer, stated that on the passage from Napiea- to Wellington he went into the stokehold and asked that the steam be kept up. The defendant said that witness would not get more than 120 lbs of steam, and if he did not leave the stokehold ho would not work at all. Instead of 150 lbs pressure being maintained it dropped to 001 b. Witness informed the firemen that unless the required amount of steam _ wns given he would inform the captain of the ship and they would be prosecuted. Eventually witness had to attend to the fires himself. The accused said that during the time the fires were being cleaned out the steam dropped from loOlba, to 120 lbs, a circumstance that could not be helped. .The second_ engineer then took the fires out of his hands.

In fining the defendant the magistrate pointed out that he was liable to a heavy penalty, and to a months’ imprisonment. , STOLEN MONEY.

Thomas William Vernon, on a charge of stealing £2, the property of Harry Fletcher, was fined 40s and ordered to refund the amount stolen, in default to be sent to- prison for 14 days. -
