TERRIFIC EXPLOSION

TIME-BOMB WRECKS POLIOS OFFICER'S HOME.

About 2 o'clock this morning the residents of Greymouth were awakened by a terrifying explosion, which proved to be tho result of one of the most dastardly deeds recorded in the Dominion for many years. A high explosive bomb had been placed in the hous3 of SeniorSergeant Simpson, of the Police Force. The house resembles a building that had beon bombed.

Sergeant Simpson says he was awakened by the explosion, found a swaying building, and heard the sound of falling glass.

The kitchen is in a state of chaos. The walls are shattered. Solid shelve* wore torn out of position, and the windows blown clean out. . .

Mrs Simpson and an infant were sleeping'' in a room adjoining. They were saved from the force of the explosion by a cupboard in the kitchen near the bedroom wall. The charge had evidently been placed in an angle formed by the kitchen chimney and the wail. /

A high explosive was used. . It shattered a bench and sink, and splintered the chimney. The charge was fired by a time fuse. A large charge was used. The inmates escar/ed injury. Mr» Simpson is suffering from shock. f - ■ : ■
