WATERSIDERS' MEETING
ANOTHER BALLOT TO BE TAKEN. There wag a large attendance at the "stop-work" meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union held in the X store waiting room yesterday .morning. The meeting was called for tJie purpose of hearing the report of the delegates who attended the recent conference with the employers regarding a proTKised increase in wages. The" delegates' report was adopted, and it was resolved that another ballot be held to decide whether the latest proposed terms be accepted or not. It was agreed to hold tihje ballot, next Thursday and Friday during the usual houTs. Mr (J. Townihill was appointed . returning officer and. Messrs W. T. Bassett and A. Glass are to act as_ scrutineers. All three acted in similar capacities at the last ballot. The waterside unions throughout New Zealand 'are holding ballots on the same siibject, the proposed terms being on a national basis. . ,•..;■•; f Yesterday's meeting started at.Bajri.i and concluded at 8.45 a.m'. The watersiders at Lyttelton held.a stop-work meeting to-day to consider a proposal from the employers regarding"" the present wages 'dispute""' The matter was fully discussed, and-it .wasdecided to conduct a ballot to-morrow and on Wednesday. The men, however, will not cease work for the purpose of voting. The indications from the tone of the meeting were that a settlement will be effected.
