WAIHI, May 17. A man named Samuel Middlebrook, while proceeding in his launch from Auckland to Tauranga on Tfaeddav, passed within a chain of a floating object which it was suspected was a floating mine. Owing to the high seas ha was unable to make a closer oxamintion. Tlie. matter was imported to tha local police to-day.
