MINING CONFERENCE

MINISTERIAL VISIT TO WEST COAST. Press Association. HOKITIKA, May 15.

Tha mining conference is being continued to-day. Yesterday several papers prepared on various aspects of mining were discussed, and a number of resolutions were passed suggesting various reforms to assist in the promotion of gold mining. The resolutions will be presented to the Minister for Mines to-night at a public deputation. The Minister for Mines visited the agricultural centres ■ in the forenoon, going over the iCokatahi and Koiterangi districts. At 3 o'clock this afternoon he visited the men on the goldfields near liake Kanieri, where the "Westland Gold Mining Syndicate is opening up a large alluvial proposition. The water from the forty-head waterrace, which is drawn from the Arahura river, .eighteen miles away, was turned on. The Minister gave a short address, wishing the promising venture every succe.ss. Mr David Ziman, managing director of the syndicate, spoke of the excellent prospects of the field, and expressed confidence in the future of the gold-mining industry of the district. The Ministor is receiving public deputations this evening, and visits lloss and Kumara to-morrow.
