Case against hospital board _ .a.ha.n7>oned. . i'ress Association. AUCKLAND, May 15. The hearing of the action brought bv Dr Percy W. Menzies against the iiliy of Islands Hospital Board, claiming JtOOl damages for allegdly wrongful dismissal in December, 1917, from the post of medical superintendent of tin! -Uangonui Hospital, was continued vesterday afternoon and to-day at the Supremo Court. Plaintiff gar© evidence at length, and denied the statements put forward in the board's statement of defence. This morning his counsel, iir Ostler, 6.iid ho was glad to announce that the case had been settled. Dr Menzies, upon his advice, had abandoned his claim, and it had been agreed that each side should pay its own costs. Mr Beed, after conanning the announcement, read (by consent) a short statement in reply to certain allegations made by the plaintiff. The defendant board, he added, did not think it worth while to go on since the plaintiff had abandoned his claim, and the continuance of the hearing would mean expense and inconvenience to, a large number of witnesses who had been brought to Auckland by the board.
