WATERSIDERS STOP WORK
BIG MEETING AND DEPUTATION TO-DAY.
A special “stop-work” meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union will tie held in the Artcraft Theatre, Molesworth street, at 8 o’clock this morning to deal with matters considered urgent. by th© union. The business will comprise the report regarding the recent national ballot, which resulted in the rejection of the employers’ offer of twopence per hour increase in wages, and the adoption of the proposed new union rules. Shortly before 10 o’clock this morning the meeting will adionrn in order that the members' may form' a deputation to wait on Cabinet to, urge the removal of war regulations. It_ is anticipated that the deputation will .consist of over 1300 men. The speakers appointed to address , Cabinet are Messrs L. Glover, E. Canham, T. Urindle, A. Agnew and J. G. Bruce (secretary of the union).
Feeling has been running high on the waterfront of late concerning the operation of the war regulations, and seeing that the war has com© to a conclusion, it is contended that no good purpose can he served by their continuance.
