During the past; week the Labour Bureau in Wellmgtcsa.plapad.jSS applicants for work. The majority of those who applied for positions were unskilled labourers, and work was found for 13 of them in the oity and 10 were sent to the country. The' department reports that there are practically no inquiries from the country for labourers, while in the city the demand, on account of the restricted number of new works in progress, is meagre.
Skilled tradesmen are at a.premium and tiier© is plenty] pf., employment offering for carpenters, painters, paperhangers, and cabinetmakers. There is also a good opening for a poultry expert, and stone and jobbing hands' are inquired for by the printing trade. No inquiries have been received from the country for farm 'hands, -which points to the fact that the farmers are able to secure locally all the labour thev require at this time of the year.
