PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ELLUINATE THE PEST.
Pre« -Association. AUCKLAND, May 7. The policy of the Agricultural Do. partment In regard to black (.pot in fruit was freely criticised at a meeting of the Auckland fruitgrowers to-day. It was stated that no consideration had been shown to growers because of abnormal circumstances such as the outbreak of the epidemic during the spraying season and the very high advance in the cost of materials. The opinion was expressed that it was practically impossible to olminato the pest. 'When the weather and other circumstances were favourable it could be got under, tut in 'ho season when circumstances were unfavourable the fruit was in a worso state than ever. The [opinion was also given that fruit should not bo condemned when a proportion of spotted fruit was below the' reasonable standard.
