THE NAVY LEAGUE
WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE MEETS. The Wellington executive of the Navy League met on Tuesday. Mr J. B. Harcourt presided, and there were present also Mesdames J. R. Gibbons, C. E. Richardson, J. Darling, Miss Laurenson, Colonel Campbell, Captain Ohudley, and Messrs Foster, Wiren, Keesing, and Darroch (secretary). Mr Keesing, on behalf .'of the Education Committee, reported that plans had been formed for the extension of the work of the league in State schools.
In view of the naval festivities during the present year, an entertainment committee was set up, consisting ot Mesdames Hall-Thompson, Gibbons, Bradney, Williams, Darling, Richardson, Miss Laurenson, Captain Chudley, and Messrs Harcourt, and Keesing (convener). A decoration committee, consisting of Captain Chudley, Messrs Wiren, Keesing, and Darroch, was also set up in connection, with the Peace celebrations. The ladies of the executive were appointed a committee to have charge of the tableau. It was reported that the Palmer Prize Fund had been closed at £IOO, which sum had been invested in war certificates. The income derived, £5 per annum, will be donated to four prizes for essays on naval subjects amongst the primary and secondary school children of New Zealand. The Otago branch of the Navy League last year had 5500 paid-up school memfbers, and distributed 400 prizes for essay writing on naval subjects.
