MEETING OF COAIAIITTEE. DRAFT PROGRAMME CONSIDERED. A meeting of the citizens committee was. held in tno Mayor s room yesteruay alter noon. Mr A. A. Aiarryalt presided. Regarding the boxing tournament, the cnairman stated tiiat tire \VeLiiugton centre of the Boxing Association intended to hold a tournament on March 20tfi, out some exception was taken to it in the city. Tne matter had been left in his hands to look after, but he -had been unable to ■ interview the executive of the association. A proposal had been to hold a gala at Lyall Bay on the Saturday preceding Easter. It was intended to rope off a portion of the beach if permission could be obtained from the council, and in this space chairs would be placed and a small charge made. It was also suggested that a collection should be made. A draft programme was submitted, which included tho following items: Saturday, March kkiid, Highland dancing from 11.-15 to 12 noon; woodchopping, 2.15; fancy dress cricket maten, 3.15, hockey match (five a side) and a sports programme from 8 p.m. till 9.80 p.m. On Alonday there will be a university tournament from 10.30 a.m. till 11.30 a.m., soccer match (fancy dress), university tournament 2 p.m. till 4 p.m., hornpipe and Irish jig, Rugby match, Scotch reel and sword dances, and in the evening sports and a modified Marathon race. The following committees were appointed : Hockey, -Messrs Organ and Cathie; Association football. Air AlcEwan; Rugby football, Alessrs Perry, Ruddier, and Hales; boxing, Alessrs Leslie, Doyle, and the Boxing Association; athletic sports, Messrs W. H. Pollock, Kitto, G. Scott, Crowes, and Guise; fancy dress carnival, Alessrs Kissling, Shields, and Newton; Highland dancing, Messrs Rogers, McPhee, and AlcLaren; tug-of-war, Air Doyle. The matter of a cricket match was left to Air M. Luckie, to confer with the Cricket Association. The Mayor said that he had decided to call a public meeting of all members of sports bodies on Thursday next, when the following would give addresses; Alessrs C. G. Wilson, Alartin Luckie, A. Paape, R. W. AlcVilly, and Marryatt. Air McVilly tendered his resignation as a member of the committee, hut it was decided to ask him to reconsider the matter. VISITORS’ RECEPTION COAIAIITTEE. The visitors’ reception committee in connection with the Citizens’ Carnival met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Air D. McLaren), Messrs J. P. Luke, T. C. Dawson, L. M. A. Riordan and F. Gordon. The committee decided to ask the Chamber of Commerce to elect two extra members. It was also decided to ask Air H. F. Allen to take up tho duties of secretary. It was resolved to recommend the executive to reserve the Tuesday and Wednesday following Easter for the entertainment of the visitors, and that the City Council, Harbour Board, Karori and Aliramar Borough Councils be asked to co-operate in this matter. The secretary was instructed to assist in the matter of obtaining a central visitors’ bureau and to report at the next meeting. A draft programme for the entertainment of the visitors was submitted. On the Tuesday morning it is proposed to conduct the visitors over tho tramway, lighting and drainage pumping stations, in the afternoon they will be taken in observation cars to Karori, Island Bay and Lyall Bay. On Wednesday morning they will be taken round some of the industrial establishments of the city, but details of this will be arranged later. They will visit tho Museum and the Art Gallery. In the afternoon it is proposed to take the visitors for a harbour trip to inspect the waterfront and thence to Petone t<j visit the woollen mills and the Gear Meat Company’s works.
