Mr J. B. Reid’s two-year-old colt Rinaldo, by Charlemagne ll.—Demeter, has made a lot of improvement since he finished out of a place in the Lyttelton Plate at Riccarton early this month, and considerable interest is being taken in his appearance in the Dunedin Champagne Stakes field tomorrow. Counterfeit, by Treadmill —Delusive, Countermine, bv Quarryman*—Safeguard, and Mad "Whirl, by Treadmill— Maduwla, were sent to Sir George Clifford’s Stonyhurst stud yesterday. Counterfeit is believed to .be in foal to Cannie Cbiel. and the other two mares will take up stud duty next season. Mr H. Friedlander’s three-year-old filly Anna Carlovna, by' Souit—Czarevna, was sold at end of last week after passing an examination for soundness by Mr J. Charlton. So far, however, tho name of the purchaser has not been disclosed. Vice-Admiral, who burst a hoof during his preparation for the Auckland
Cup, has now quite recovered from his injurj-, and is doing satisfactory work under M. Hobbs’s direction. That fine colt Ngatapa is looking really well, and it is a great pity that he is so badly affected in the wind. R. J. Mason’s horses, until lately quartered at R. Derrett’s stables, are now to occupy boxes at Lonsdale lodge.
