COMING EVENTS. Wellington Provincial Championships and Palmerston North Club’s Handicap Tournament Palmerston North. March 22. 24, and 25. N.Z. University Championships—Wellington, March 22nd and 25tb. North Island Interprovincial Championships—New Plymouth, Easter. Wanganui Tournament— Championships and Handicaps, Wanganui, March 21st, 22nd, and 24th. THORNDON CHAMPIONSHIP. The New Zealand champion, B. N. K. Swanston. won the club event of Wellington without loss of a set. W hat promised to be an interesting match was that with T. M. B. Fisher (whom bwanston defeated in the New Zealand final), but owing to absence from Wellington Swanstoa won by default, and lus victories in the concluding rounds were over V. White-Parsons, 6—l, 6—o, (semi-final); J. C. Peacock, 6—l. 6—3, 6—4 (final). . _ , Miss Turton by defeating Mrs Holmes (7—5, 6—o) qualifies for the final of the ladies' championship, and will have for an opponent either Miss Nunneloy or Miss Batham. In the men’s handicap singles Swanston (owe 10) and White-Parsons (owe 15 3-6) have reached the fourth round, the former by defeating Nagle (owe 3-6 15), 6— i, 6—2, and the latter by winning from Putnam (rec. 3-6 15), 6—5, 6—o. The remaining players left in the event are Fell (scr), Parker (scr), Salmond (owe 15 3-16), and Smythe (owe 15 3-6). In the final of the ladies’ doubles the contestants will be Misses Simpson and Dixon (owe 15) and Mrs Biss and Miss B, D’Oyley (rec. 15). WELLINGTON PRESIDENT’S HANDICAPS. The following are the scores in the concluding stages of two of the handicap events at Palmer street:— Men’s Singles.—Semi-finals: T. L. Ward (owe 5) v. C. H. Clinkard (15) 6—53, Doddington (7) v. H. Rout (10) 60—58. Final: Pino Ward (owe 5) v. Doddington (7) 60-47. * Ladies’ Singles. Semi-finals: Mrs Pernio (owe 5) v. Miss Still (15) by default, Miss Atmore (3) v. Miss Van Stayeren (owe 7) 50—43. Final: Mrs A. p Perme (owe 5) v. Miss D. Stevens v. Mrs Wagg, 9—l. . Miss Stevens also easily defeated her eister* Miss F. Stevens, in the final ot the ladies' handicap after giving her tea points start. Men’s Championship Doubles.—P. u. Jackson and 0. M, Power v. P. and C. Drown. 6—4, 7—5. Ladies’ Championship Doubles.—Misses C. and F. Stevens v. Misses Humfrey and Speedy, 6—4. 4—6, 6—4. POSITION IN OTHER EVENTS. In men s championship singles Jackson and Power meet in the semi-final, the Winner to play Percy Drown, who is already through. In tne combined championship doubles Jackson and Mrs Ivagg meet P. Drown and Miss Humfrey in the final. . GENERAL NOTES. TEe men’s handicap singles at Muritai has reaoned the senn-huaf stage, the players still left in the event being o. nowden, P. McDonald, J. Two Wellington colts likely to be competitors at tire: W'diiington provnroml championship meeting at Palmerston Norm are Leo Curtis (Petone) and J. M. Power (Hutt). TUe former is playing splendid tennis this season. The dales for the tournament are March 22nd, 24th and 25th. . Auckland is out already with its representative team for the North island interprovmcial tournament to be held at New Plymouth during the Easter holidays : Men; A. D. MoCutcheon. Dr H. Keith, W. A. Brown, H. Gold Smith; emergency, Robson. Ladies; Miss A. Gray, Mrs Cooper, Misses G. Gorrie and M. Steele; emergency, Mrs Gold Smith. Two leading players in K. Duthie and Miss E. Gumming were not available for selection, as they are to represent Auckland University College in the New Zealand championships at Wellington, starting on Easter Saturday. {
